Here is the authentic Caribbean, the one you'll find if you search beyond the typical tourist destinations.The chapters are arranged, rather uniquely, by colonial backgrounds and their corresponding styles. The Spanish, English, Dutch, French, and Danish all had different historical roles in the region, and all left distinct stylistic elements on the domestic structures they influenced. The houses are highly stylized examples, and reveal sophisticated mastery of classical technique.A kaleidoscope of vivid color, the Caribbean is a melting pot like no other on Earth. Brilliantly captured, the interior and exterior photography here is stunning. The related text for each site is rich with both architectural and historical contexts. There are no floor plans, elevations, or other architectural devices, but this is a book that works as well as a reference work for an architectural historian as it does a coffee table browse.

I have all of Michael Connors Caribbean Books. This one is fabulous! The historical accounts, photographs and attention to detail are superb. Some years ago I met the very interesting Michael Connors in NYC at his antique store; he was receptive to intelligent inquiry, yet impatient with the mundane, and rightly so.

Cuba is so far away. I'm totally ignorant of Cuba other than Fidel Castro. So this book is trully enlightening eventhough its slant is mainly about Cuban furniture. The photos are clear and beautiful and the text erudite. Much research was done and it shows. Its a book worth buying if you are into history/interior design/antique. Even if you're not, its a good read.

Coming back from a dream Caribean cruise I found a book review about the History, Style and Architecture of Caribean Houses. Architecture and Design are my favourite subjects and also the favourite subjects of my friend who came with me on this trip. It is meant to be his birthday present in June. I couldn’t put this book down. One of the most powerfully written stories capturing the dark, messy struggle for survival and the life affirming need to find your joy. It’s hauntingly beautiful, descriptive, and ultimately triumphant. The writing is alive, athletic and emotional and the strength and fight of this author vibrates on every page. I am blown away.

Your life experienced hurt early, but your achievements are remarkable for such youth. Your drive is impressive and your parents must be proud of your decision making in such riptides of emotion. You did “suck it up” however a level playing field- it was not. Glad you left, sorry “him horrible” was not exposed” as he had probably committed atrocities before.Your gut was talking to you. Your emotional intelligence got sabotaged by some AF personnel, but you rose above this. That’s the huge value in seeing your creative intelligence explode almost in retaliation of the wrongs done to you. Great job and glad you are there for others as you always seem to have been super sensitive due to losing a precious sister.AF is a wonderful branch of service but the making of a good cadet should be more than you experienced.
