Half of the "feelings" in this book aren't feelings at all- just things opinions or desires.Examples for clarity:I feel frustrated because this book is not what I hoped for. (Feeling!)I feel happy because I can return it. (Feeling!)I feel like this book is useless. (Opinion)I feel like leaving my first Amazon product review so other parents don't waste their money. (Want/desire)I feel better now.
the description says this book is suitable for 2-4 years. I was looking for something to help my 2 year old learn to express her feelings. I was so disappointed with what it turned out to be. "I feel like standing on my head" "I feel like reading under the covers". this book is definitely NOT for 2 year olds. the only reason i'm NOT returning it is because my daughter likes the illustrations but it completely missed the point of the title in my opinion.
We purchased this book for our grandson after he was having some typical two years moments. Just to get the conversation going with a dash or awareness. The book arrived in a timely manner and it good condition. The most surprising part was when my son remembered having the book as a little boy -honestly, I didn't remember this particular book until then; so I double checked with my daughter, who has an amazing memory and sure enough my ds, dear son, was right. This leads me to my conclusion, this book while seemingly, non spectacular, makes an lasting impression. My grandson did enjoy the book when I read it to him, and my son said it is a bedtime favorite. From an educational and developmental learning perspective, this book meets developmental benchmarks typical for both Social and Emotional skills and Literacy skills.Note: I use the Experience Early Learning Developmental Framework ([...]) for many of my reviews, especially those products geared towards children under age 5. I find this particular developmental continuum to be aligned with NAEYC, accurate, detailed, and comprehensive. - not for any financial profit. Additionally, "The Feelings Book" encourages skill developmental in Common Core's ELA Standards in much the same way as all books can. The language used in book will certainly help children who are struggling to identify their feeling and provides good practice for young children.
My toddler really does not like this book at all, and neither do I. It's not fun to read and really isn't about feelings! Feeling like eating ice cream is more of a thought. I thought it would talk about being happy, sad, frustrated...
I feel...disappointed. Which is an actual emotion. There are very few emotions represented in this book and mostly thoughts (which people confuse with feelings when they say "I feel like" - this is a thought). My kids liked the book, but as a counselor, I was hoping to increase emotional intelligence and awareness and got a silly book. I did really like Todd's "it's okay to be different" because it truly represented ways that my children are different as well as many others.
Great book for my class of two year olds! It allows me to explain different types of emotions that we may feel at any time whether it is simple ones like being scared to ones that are silly like staying in the bath tub. I enjoy this pictures and phrases which make it really easy to understand! The board book is sturdy and has survived awhile with twenty toddlers reading it all the time. I truly recommend this book if you need a way to explain emotions/feelings to young children!
Good book for kids to learn more about the feelings they're experiencing as they grow. Our daughter loves it an emulates a lot of the feelings from the book into her daily life. Its definitely been helpful in us teaching our daughter what the different feelings are that she's experiencing and what they mean. The only reason its a 4-star and not a 5-star review is some of the feelings and pictures don't match up perfect and can be a little confusing to, but easy enough to explain to your child with a story around it. We would purchase this book again if needed and have recommended to friends.
I wasn't exactly what I expected, but I do recommend getting this book for any child. My 2 year old loves to read and he wouldn't put this down he wanted to read it all night. It's a new favorite.
