About the Author
James T. Dennison, Jr. is Academic Dean of Northwest Theological Seminary in Washington, where he also serves as Professor of Church History and Biblical Theology. He has been the editor of "Kerux: A Journal of Biblical-Theological Preaching" since 1986. Dennison does a great job tracing the theological and political struggles around the observance of the Lord's Day in Puritan England. From the desecrations occurring in the pre-Reformation English Church to the articulation of the defense of the Sabbath by the Puritans to the political considerations of legal enforcement by the crown to the lower views held by the prelatists (Dennison calls them "Anglicans", my one quibble with the book, as the Puritans were also "Anglicans").Highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of Lord's Day observance and the theology behind it. Note that this book was cited by J. I. Packer in his "Quest for Godliness". It's serious scholarship written in an accessible and enjoyable manner.
