A text that makes one think when reading is right by me. It's not fast and not for every one, but for those with a hunger for some ancient background, it fills the void.

This is a nice deal for those wanting the Hermetic Corpus in a translation that is at least the best in the Public Domain (which means bombastic Victorian English, so be aware). However only the first 13 tractates are included here, and most awkwardly of all, the introduction talks about The Perfect Sermon to Asclepius being included, but it ISN'T. There are no footnotes either. Even the commentary is not original work, but is copy-pasted from Gnosis.org.Be very suspicious when buying an Amazon CreateSpace book: because the person behind it has no obligation or overhead to keep him in line, expect less polish in general. This was mostly a simple copy-paste job, so it is odd that he chose not to copy and paste the remaining tractates.

This is a very deep book it contains much wisdom from The Honorable Elijah Muhammad.It has much information under short headings. This book has at least a dual purpose from God Himself.

Elijah Muhammad (1897-1975; born as Elijah Robert Poole) led the Nation of Islam from 1934 until his death. This 1957 book contains a topical selection of brief teachings of his on a wide variety of subjects. Here are some quotations:"I do not make mistakes in what I write pertaining to these two races---black and white---and I do not need to study the theory of evolution to learn about them." (Pg. 21)"Get an equal education, but stay to yourselves today. It is too late in the evening to try mixing the races." (Pg. 22)"The present Brotherhood of Islam is typical of the life in the Hereafter. The only difference is that the Brotherhood in the Hereafter will enjoy the spirit of gladness and happiness forever in the presence of Allah." (Pg. 25)"Many people have been deceived by the arch deceiver in regards to the Hereafer. They think the Hereafter is a life of spirits (spooks) up somewhere in the sky, while it is only on the earth, and you won't change to any spirit beings. The life in the hereafter is only a continuation of the present life." (Pg. 26)"The Arabs are alleged to have slaves. The Arabs will answer for themselves, but I do know that no Muslim will enslave a Muslim. All Muslims are the brothers of another Muslim." (Pg. 29)"Know that Jesus was only a prophet and cannot hear you pray any more than Moses of any other dead prophet. Allah alone can hear your prayers and answer them." (Pg. 34)"The Original Man, Allah has declared, is none other than the black man. He is the first and the last, and maker and owner of the universe; from him come all---brown, yellow, red and white. By using a special method of birth control law, the black man was able to produce the white race." (Pg. 38)

Within the Supreme Wisdom and Teachings of T.H.E.M is THE solution for not only the "so-called negroes" but also the Whites of America and all the Human Families of Planet Earth. Fundamentally, the philosophies of Black separation and Nationalism are different from those sought by Whites. The former is simply an attempt at establishing Justice for self - and by extension others- while the latter is hate -filled, fear-based. Just v. unjust. A Divine Solution of Freedom, Justice and Equality for ALL. If we as Whites are sincere we will work for the cause of Black Nationalism, and in doing so, we gain the favor of the Creator, become member's in good standing within the Human Family. We benefit ad well.

A book for those who seek enlightenment. I am not a Muslim, but it is a great thing to seek truth amongst those who are wise.

This is a photocopy pamphlet and many of the pages had faint text where you could not read nor even attempt to read it.Poor quality and a book mixed with lies.

Recipes are difficult and not for the new chef. Taste just like what you get in the restaurant, but are long and involved and not for quick meals. Plan ahead if you want to cook from this book.

Enjoyed a delicious meal at Founding Farmers restaurant in Washington,DC. I purchased this cookbook for a friend for the mussel appetizer that she ordered at the restaurant and loved. Reviews on Amazon declared the Cookbook contained the menu items but unfortunately not the mussel appetizer with Chorizo. The cookbook was nicely illustrated and lots of great recipes. You won't regret purchasing.

I gave this book as a Christmas gift and was an instant hero upon presentation. It helps if you have visited a Founding Farmers restaurant (which we did) and enjoyed the food. The unique menu intrigued us and the flavorful dishes delighted our palates. We forgot to ask about the cook book on the way out, but I was pleased to find it online for less. Now the task of recreating the dishes begins.

Beautiful book (inside and out) lot's of delicious looking recipes (haven't tried any of them yet but if they're half as delicious as the food at the restaurant, I'm sure they'll be great). Cool Christmas gift for my chica.

Black Butler is one of my favorite anime, but I think the manga could be even better. Where the first volume establishes the characters and the setting, this one really gets into the action and introduces great characters like the "real" Grell Sutcliff, Lau, and the Undertaker. Unlike in the anime, the manga takes advantage of the format and gives you glimpses into Sebastian's thoughts about Ciel (his only talent is getting kidnapped) and the servants (apparently he sees them as imbeciles). In fact I really felt more like I "knew" Sebastian the character after reading the manga.The author really goes through some involved twists to finally get Ciel into a party dress, and I did find it hilarious. Black Butler is great and one of those hard-to-find things; a wholly original idea executed beautifully.

This manga is about a young boy who promised his soul to a demon in exchange for help finding the identity of the people who killed his parents and getting revenge against them. In the meantime, the demon masquerades as his butler and takes orders from him. The setting is in Victorian England, and the artwork is beautiful. I often find myself wanting Ciel's clothes. The storylines are at times funny and at times dark and serious. I especially enjoyed reading the author's behind-the-scenes stories at the very end of the manga, which you don't get if you only read the manga in serialized form. Some of the themes in the manga are dark, so it's more suitable for older children and adults.

Black Butler is a fun sort of paranormal, steampunk, alternate victorian reality romp. I really enjoy it. If you're coming to the manga from the anime, there are some character differences, and a little dissonance. The english Funimation dialog was quite good, but the manga is better with backstory, innuendo and some slapstick. I will continue to buy them, as I enjoy the series so far. The characters are quirky and often hilarious (Undertaker LOL).

I really liked volume 2. It is nice to see a little more of Sebastian's evil side peaking out with every new volume. I didn't think I would like this series when my daughter insisted I try it, but it has become one of my favorites. The weird relationship between Ciel, the young master, and Sebastian, his devil bound manservant is interesting in itself. The bumbling house staff and interesting touches of victorian England flesh out the stories nicely. Ciel is in service to the Queen and has to track down the infamous Jack the Ripper. This is the first part to that story, which also introduces some interesting new characters (love the creepy undertaker!). As usual the artwork is really beautiful, though I sometimes wish she wouldn't use such small print for her side notes. Overall, you won't be disappointed in this one.

I've been following the manga since the Noah's ark circus arc and have to say I enjoyed this act as well this volume concludes 'the Weston collage arc' and begins 'the green witch arc' this arc ends in a very shocking twist that's all I'll say so I won't spoil it for you, there's also a in-between chapter about ciel and Sebastian dealing with characters form a previous arc which is hilarious and as usall the artwork is great. Over all I recommend this volume to fans of the series.

This volume was just as good as the first, if not better. The author Yana Toboso continues to explain more of the characters' past experiences and motives. In this volume, Sebastian and Ciel are suppose to help discover who Jack the Ripper is on behalf of the queen. This volume contanis the famous scenes of Ciel in a dress. Yes, it's as adorable as you think it is. The artwork is beautiful. The backgrounds and clothing contain lots of details so it's a feast for the eyes. I don't want to say more about the story because it will ruin it. Trust me, it's good. There is a cliffhanger at the end of this volume that is immedaitely resumed in volume 3.

I ordered this volume along with nine other volumes from the same series. All of the books came to me as described , new. The condition was great; no nicks, bends or tears anywhere. The covers were shiny and free from finger prints (except my own I made during observation.) They all arrived within the estimated delivery time frame and were packaged well.5 out of 5 stars.

**spoiler alert** Who should benefit from the coming power of AI? The author paints two pictures: the first a nightmare scenario where the vast majority of citizens are, as soon as their inevitable obsolescence by the machines, warehoused and forgotten, leaving the elite few ownership class to reap the rewards of the automation while the rest wallow in tedium and obscurity, the second a seemingly utopian alternative where the machines augment people's abilities instead of replace them, where the collective benefits of the machines are shared. What I found most interesting was that in both scenarios the author presented a seemingly inevitability of loss of personal liberties. While in scenario 2 the citizens lived in luxury, in the process they also gave up a not small part of their humanity or even free will (in the process taking a deep turn into science fiction territory), leaving a reader to question which would be more insidious: living in a box with your actions monitored and controlled externally, or living with augmentations but at a price of your humanity. I think it would be easy to dismiss this parable as anti-capitalist, but I speculate that the author is more interested in directions of innovation instead of governance or economy - demonstrating the outcomes when the machines are designed to either usurp or augment.

I fell that the technical plausibility and technical detail of this work was spot-on, and that the dystopia presented in the first half of the book was both believable and enlightening. I think the writing and the storytelling were better in the opening chapters and degraded slightly over the course of the book. I finished the first chapter thinking that I could probably write the software for a research-grade prototype of a system like "Manna" and I finished the second chapter well-aware of the very plausible dangers of such a system.I was less impressed with the second half of the book and feel that, from a storytelling perspective, this book's Utopia should have had a clearer dark side. I think the author left hooks in the book where such a thing could have been developed further, even while leaving a twisted utopia that was better than the world presented in the first half of the book. It could even have been written in such a way as to make the main character unaware of the negative aspects of his newfound Paradise while leaving them clear for the reader (perhaps the book was attempting to do exactly this and I missed it).I encourage the author of this work to write another book with basically the same premise, but more refined writing and more nuanced storytelling. I also encourage the reading of this book at technology-oriented book clubs, as it seems likely to produce a heated debate over ideas.

This book sure is something else.I've been digging into the whole 'post-scarcity economy' thing for years after having first been introduced to the concept by Jacques Fresco of The Venus Project [...], James P. Hogan's "Voyage from Yesteryear" and The Culture Series from Ian Banks. I've seen the dystopian version from The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson and Counting Heads by David Marusek.But this book Manna, drives the science fiction into the harsh limelight of the soon-to-be future. It doesn't even require real AI or advanced nanotechnology to achieve it. It all starts with a desktop computer in a back office and radio headset like they wear at the fast food restaurants.After reading this book, you'll never look at those employees wearing those headsets the same way again.After reading this book, you'll be wanting to find out where you can sign up for the post-scarcity civilization as how it should be.The book is simple, told in a narrative style by the protagonist much in the same style as Jules Verne, in my view. But that's the point: The plot is only supposed to be the vehicle to show you what is coming and how we can adapt to it as a new phase of civilization dawns on humanity.Certain details get overlooked in the process, such as how some of the things the expert software system MANNA tells/does to the employees that would get that employer in hot water with the lawyers (especially in California). But then again those details don't really matter, as the reader becomes convinced that the paradigm shift of robots taking away 90% of human jobs will happen no matter what kind of obstacles are placed in its way.For 99 cents and only 79 pages of reading time, this book is worth its weight in gold.

A very engaging little work somewhere between a short story and a novella. I found the dystopian side a bit more plausible, given what has been revealed to us about human nature over the last 5,000 years or so and that part of the story is develped in a nice cinematic trajectory from the initial spare and foreboding sentence gathering momentum from its own internal logic. Brain extends several tendencies already extant and builds a fairly coherent cautionary tale of where automation, corporate control and the surveillance state could easily lead us.The utopian side is fun but slightly unconvincing- kind of like a super optimistic techno/futuristic TED talk on steroids- from complete common ownership of ALL resources and ubiquitous robotic means of production through direct brain/cyber interface all the way to a Matrix-like (though cheerfully non-judgemental) dissociation of humans from their pesky bodies...except, of course, for the all important brain, floating in a rack of tanks somewhere...a little creepy. Definitely someone else's utopia.So, the slightly creepy (to me) technological singularity parts aside, all in all, a quick and entertaining ride.

I love the different plans for weight loss vs. building muscle. My only issue with the recipes is that sugar isn't accounted for in the nutritional facts of each recipe. So I've found myself figuring out the amount of sugar there is in each ingredient and serving size. Kind of annoying, but not the worst thing in the world. Other than that, this book is awesome!
