About the Author

John J. Coyle is currently director of corporate relations for the Center for Supply Chain Research and professor emeritus of logistics and supply chain management in the Smeal College of Business at Penn State University. He holds a BS and MS from Penn State and earned his doctorate from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was a U.S. Steel Fellow. He joined the Penn State faculty in 1961 and attained the rank of full professor in 1967. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has served in a number of administrative positions, including department head, assistant dean, senior associate dean, special assistant for strategic planning to the university president, and executive director of the Center for Supply Chain Research. He also served as Penn State's faculty representative to the NCAA for 30 years and to the Big Ten for 10 years. Dr. Coyle was the editor of the Journal of Business Logistics from 1990 to 1996. He has authored or coauthored 20 books or monographs and numerous articles in professional journals. He has received 14 awards at Penn State for teaching excellence and advising. In addition, he received the Council of Logistics Management's Distinguished Service Award in 1991; the Philadelphia Traffic Club's Person of the Year Award in 2003; and the Eccles Medal from the International Society of Logistics for his contributions to the Department of Defense and the Lion's Paw Medal from Penn State for Distinguished Service, both in 2004. Dr. Coyle currently serves on the boards of three logistics and supply chain service companies and on the Advisory Board of the NLDC and continues to be active in teaching in the Executive Education Programs at Penn State.

About the Author

Antony Beevor was educated at Winchester and Sandhurst. A regular officer in the 11th Hussars, he served in Germany and England. He has published several novels, and his works of nonfiction include The Spanish Civil War; Crete: The Battle and the Resistance, which won the 1993 Runciman Award; Stalingrad: The Fateful Siege: 1942—1943; and Berlin: The Downfall, 1945. With his wife, Artemis Cooper, he wrote Paris: After the Liberation: 1944—1949. Beevor's "Stalingrad" was so good that I then read his "Ardennes 1944" and it was also superb. To list the advantages of these books I'll start with the lesser ones. First off, they are very well edited. No proofreading errors. Thirty years ago this was a given. Nowadays even major presses put out shoddy books. Secondly, he is a master of sources in however many languages he needs to be to write the story. For the Ardennes, French and German. For Stalingrad, German and Russian. Third, he realizes that perhaps not all his readers are ex-military. He understands that words like regiment, battalion and division might be confusing to civilians (many of whom, like me, have a hard time remembering which is bigger). He explains things like that without being condescending, and also points out that German units in 1944 were usually much smaller than they had been in 1940. Fourth, when I say "sources" I don't only mean previously published works in English and I don't mean just published books. He has apparently read thousands of letters, diaries, and combat field reports from privates to colonels, plus accounts, either written or oral, from civilians or POWs who happened to get caught up in the fighting. On every page, Beevor can go from the view of the generals, looking at their maps, to the eyewitness recollection of a private in either army or a farmer who was there and saw that particular skirmish on that exact day. The expansion in perspective for the reader is astonishing. Many writers attempt a little bit of this but it is still obvious that at heart they are fanboys of the generals. Beevor is not. He covers the strategic view as well as any historian but his sympathies lie with the individuals on the ground, soldiers in foxholes or villagers fleeing the bombardment of their homes. It is not just the reader's perspective that thereby expands to touch the horizons, but also sympathy for every human caught up in the chaos. Fifth, Beevor knows how to write effective invisible prose. No fancy vocabulary, no verbosity, just clear writing that vanishes, enabling the reader to become part of the narrative. This takes humility and great skill. There are few military history books this well written but I would compare Beevor to Ian Toll and James Hornfischer. If you've read them, you know what I mean.

I initially read this book some 15 years ago and a whole lot went way over my head. Lately I've been on a binge of Antony Beevor books, starting with his broad-scale Second World War, then working my way back starting with The Fall of Berlin, the Ardennes Offensive, and D-Day.Stalingrad was the first of Beevor's epic world war 2 history books, meticulously researched with an immense amount of detail, technical and personal, without being overwhelming --- you get to understand certain things such as the advantages of the T-34 over the Panzer IV in simple terms (T-34 was easier to produce, had broader tracks, etc) rather than giving hyper specifics like precise barrel calibers and engine efficiencies or the like. We also get loads of personal insight into various Russian and german generals, including of Hitler and Stalin themselves, and you get to see that this event was essentially the breaking point for Hitler, where he became completely unhinged and lost all touch with the reality on the ground.If you've ever read an Antony Beevor work on world war 2, you essentially know how it goes, and the immense level of detail you get. The only problem I have with this book is that, unlike later books of his, this one has precious few maps, and the maps we do get are strictly related to the operations launched. As such, they tend not to focus on areas and cities which are repeatedly mentioned and often the site of major movements or the beginning of major counter offensives. Sometimes there will be repeated mentions of certain rivers which appear on the map, but aren't properly labelled.

Very thorough representation of the battle for Stalingrad during WW II. Story gets wordy and repetitive at times, but if you want to get a good sense for all-out war .....read this book. It covers the entire 2 year battle in graphic detail, from the initial planning of Operation Barbarossa to the final surrender of the German 6th Army.Coming through loud and clear in this book:1. The terror of the war between two merciless armies, a war that went way beyond the battlefields.2. The decisions and plans of the two dictators (and their senior military officers) that were successful......and those that weren't.3. Life in the foxholes with the common soldiers.4. Commonplace murder and torture of POWs by both sides.5. In-human German atrocities towards Russian civilians.....German SS massacring all the Jews and communists that they laid their hands on.6. In-human atrocities toward Russian civilians by the Russians themselves....brutalization and murder (by Stalin's vicious secret police) of anyone suspected of any kind of dissent from the `party line'.7. The extreme sacrifice of the Russian people to hold the Stalingrad area at any cost (no retreat)......stalling the German Army long enough to push the battle into a 2nd Russian winter.8. Russia's huge contribution to the Allied war effort with their 'stand' at Stalingrad....likely ensuring Germany's ultimate defeat.This is a good account of a critical WW II battle, but it's a fairly long book, so plan on spending some time with it.

I love this series. I didn't want it to end. I hope she continues writing for these characters in the future. My very favorite will always be Kade and Julieanne back in "Speak No Evil" but Riley and Caitlin is a close second. I loved the Riley's angst. Lol He was torn between falling in love with sweet, funny, pretty Caitlin and being with her for the rest of his life and being a fugitive. I don't want to give away anything about the story in my review so I will just say how much i loved it. It was truely an adventure, mystery, romance, that i was sad to finish. I tried to read it as slowly as possible so as not to finish too fast. That is why this review is so late in coming. Sorry Jordan. (If your reading this) lol I loved your book that much. I'm going to now go and devour her other books. Great read to snuggle with in bed on cold winter nights.I received this book for free through Jordan Ford's ACR group which i am a happy member.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.I have to say this book is a great way to end Brotherhood Trilogy Series. Although, the book was mainly about Riley and Caitlin's story, it gave a good ending for all the couples involved. Riley was able to learn about his past. Jordan Ford did not disappoint with twist and turns in this book. Once you starting reading from the first page, I'm sure you won't want to put the book down. I enjoyed reading the book that I also purchased a copy.

Jordan Ford is probably one of my favorite YA authors. She has a way of describing the characters and setting the perfect scene so that I feel connected to the story. This is a clean, young adult, suspense/mystery romance. Riley's and Caitlin's story is book three in the series so definitely read it in order. I'm actually kind of sad because I didn't want their stories to end! Riley is such a strong and brave character and Caitlin is the curious, supportive sweetheart that's a perfect match for Riley. All of the loose ends and mysteries are satisfactorily answered and WOW! So many twists and turns but so exciting to read! I would love an extended epilogue to get a peek into all the characters' future. Told from dual POVs with a happy ending.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. I also purchased a copy of this book because it is THAT good! I love a good mystery, but I especially love it when I get caught off guard! Jordan did a great job writing this story so that you could really feel the character's emotions and struggles. The amount of crazy connections that tied this entire series together was mind-blowing!! I definitely did not expect all the twists, but yet they all made perfect sense! Good job once again :)

I voluntarily reviewed this ARC book. Make some time and find a quiet place to hide as you will want to finish this book in one setting with no interruptions. This book will leave you breathless. I fell in love with the Brotherhood; Young men who may not yet know where they are heading in life, but they own up to their mistakes, but they will fight for their family and find love along the way. Hear No Evil is a rollercoaster of a book; hang on tight until you finish the last page.

This is the final book in the Brotherhood trilogy with Riley and Caitlin. I loved it! We get the answers to Riley's past along with a few twists I wasn't expecting. It was the perfect ending for this band of brothers. They show you don't have to share blood to be a family but share the love of one another. Can't wait to see what Ms. Ford brings us next.I was privileged enough to receive a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

We knew going into this book that secrets would be revealed and drama would ensue. What we didn't know was the climactic extent of them. Blew my mind! It was an action explosion that made me flip the pages faster and faster. If you would have asked me how I thought this would all end...I definitely wouldn't have come up with this. That is the wondrous beauty of Miss Ford's writing. She can have you swooning in love one moment and gasping in utter shock the next. It was one heck of a finale to this series and one I'll never forget.

I wish I could rate this book higher than 5 stars because it deserves it. It was the prefect conclusion to the Brotherhood series. Riley does so much for his brothers, he needed his happily ever after. This book had me forgetting to breathe at some points and yelling at characters in others. I hate seeing such a good series come to an end, but it was one heck of a ride.

Most of this book did shock me because I took it as the truth. When I talked to someone from Ukraine, that person claimed don't judge a whole country by a few bad stories. It is informative for visitation and contains the alphabet to speak both Russian and Ukrainian! Worth the purchase.

Dalton is very frank about how to deal with Ukrainian bureaucracy, how to maintain patience, and how to refrain from comparing everything to life back home. While she emphasizes to the reader that Ukraine may be a difficult and sometimes infuriating country for outsiders, she is always respectful of the Ukrainian culture and way of life. This is one of the few books in the Culture Shock series that are so admirably dedicated to preventing culture shock.Meredith Dalton also tackles the delicate issue of ethnicity in Ukraine, and explains how, for some people, the country is polarised into a Ukrainian-speaking half and a Russian-speaking half. However, she also shows how the country is in most respects a united culture in spite of language differences.I felt the section on Ukrainian cuisine could have been a bit more in-depth. Also, the book is geared towards future residents of Kyiv or Lviv, the two cities to which foreigners are most likely to move. As a result, Ukrainian village life is hardly mentioned. However, the meagreness of these topics left Dalton ample room for discussion of Ukrainian custom, etiquette, and superstition.All in all, CULTURE SHOCK: UKRAINE is an essential resource for anyone vacationing in Ukraine or moving there. this is a really good book about Ukraine. It talks about everything you can imagine-customs, laws, people, even jokes. Its very accurate and definately brought back some memories for me. Although some of the information is outdated in places like Kyiv, great insight to some of the other places. I wish she had more to say about the Western (Traditional Ukrainian) half, but still well worth it.
