If you are planning a trip to Nova Scotia, start here. This truly excellent atlas has topo features, cities and towns, roads, and what are probably no more than paths or tracks. It contains about 90 individual maps covering all of Nova Scotia, more than you ever wanted to know. Never having visited the Maritimes, I cannot attest to its accuracy, but it gives every appearance of being a superbly useful set of maps, professionally and carefully prepared.

I bought this book in Toronto, Ontario in preparation for my move to Wolfville, Nova Scotia. I am an avid naturalist and outdoor enthusiast (hiking, biking, Nordic skiing, canoeing), as well as an explorer of old roads and villages, so I required a detailed set of maps that would let me discover my new home province.This highly detailed and up-to-date (2001) road atlas covers Nova Scotia at 1:150 000 (1 cm=1.5 km or 1 inch = 2.4 miles) in 90 highly detailed and colourful, yet very clear, map pages. Each map is large (25.5 cm x 18.5 cm or 10 in x 7.25 in) and overlaps a generous but not excessive 1.5 km (1 mi) with the adjacent map pages. The index has over 14 000 geographical names (towns, villages, rivers, lakes, islands, etc.). The book is 33.5 cm x 25.5 cm (13 in x 10 in) in total size, and weighs 780 g (1 lb, 11 oz). It is prepared by the Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, and the Nova Scotia Geomatics Centre.This volume has all of the features that one would expect from a conventional road atlas, including well-labelled highways, railways, ferry routes, cities, towns, villages, historic sites, parks, lakes, rivers, designated beaches, hospitals and airports. What sets it apart, however, is that it displays many features more typical of topographic maps in the convenience of one volume. Natural features such as contour lines, point elevations, wetlands and even the smallest ponds, streams and islands are clearly displayed. Human features, including sections of crown (public) land, airstrips, heliports, firetowers, power lines, pipelines, quarries, aeronautical obstacles and geodetic monuments are also well-marked.What is most impressive, however, is that every road, paved and unpaved, longer than 200 m (600 ft or 1/8 mi) in the province is indicated in a colour and thickness that corresponds to the type of road and surface. These roads include limited access highways (Nova Scotia 100 Highway series), arterial highways (NS Highways 1 to 28), collector highways (NS 200 and 300 Highway series), local highways, local roads, loose surface roads, cart tracks, public hiking trails and rail trails.Needless to say, this detail is an absolute dream for those that like to explore the province off the beaten track, and for those that wish to hike, mountain bike or Nordic ski on old logging roads. The contours and natural features labelled on the pages will also help in determining the topography of a trip.My only wish is that some of the larger non-highway side roads (which the province unfortunately does not number) were labelled on the maps. However, my guess is that the author may have felt that these labels would clutter the pages to the point where they would decrease the quality of the atlas. After travelling in a certain region, I have taken to labelling the roads on the corresponding atlas page with an index number, and then, in the generous margins, cross-referencing the number with the name of the road so that I know where it is in the future.This atlas is fantastic value when one considers the price of individual governmental topographic maps. I am of the opinion that it will satisfy all but the most hardcore back-country adventurer in Nova Scotia (I would still suggest the governmental 1:50 000 map series for individuals planning longer canoe or backpacking trips).Combine the information in this book with excellent and up-to-date books on Hiking Trails of Nova Scotia by Michael Haynes (completely different trails are featured in the 7th AND 8th editions), and Mountain bike! Atlantic Canada by Sarah L. Hale and Jodi E. Bishop, and you are set to explore this beautiful part of the world!Have fun and drive safely!

I compared this book to 2 others and found this one to be the most informative. Purchased the Kindle version so that I would have it on my phone and tablet. Awesome book to spend time with in learning about this great camera. After buying the D750 body I went back to the store to purchase a 50mm prime lens (G) FX version. While there I met another customer who just bought a D7200 and also was looking to buy the same lens. A conversation developed and I showed him this book on my phone and recommended that he get the one for his D7200. His reply was that he could get his information on YouTube. I thought about it afterwards and concluded that it would take me more time to use YouTube than to use this book as the learning resource. One of the areas of the book that I really studied was the extensive coverage of all the different types of Nikon lenses that could be used. What a good education I received from this book on lenses. Also that same day I was in a different store trying to purchase the prime lens when another customer had questions about Nikon camera bodies. I quickly showed him the lens section from my phone and was able to assist on the spot. If I had to rely on YouTube it wouldn't have been as quick or possible. This book has tons of tips and advice which I'm finding extremely useful. Highly recommend. Mr. Klostermann I thank you for your books which have accelerated my understanding of these fine cameras.

This is a great book for the beginning- to intermediate-level digital photographer who wants to the the most out of their new camera and who doesn't have experience with a recent Nikon dSLR camera. It goes into great detail about all of the features and settings of the Nikon D750 camera, and offers suggestions as to settings to initially try, as well as encouraging the user to develop their own style. I actually bought the book before I purchased the camera, to aid in deciding if this was the camera I wanted to purchase. I had downloaded the 500+ page D750 user's manual from the Nikon site, and found it to be descriptive, but not really a good learning tool.Klostermann's book is both descriptive and helpful, works well in conjunction with the user's manual, and is written in an informal, easy to understand and enjoyable-to-read style. With over 80 features that are customizable on the camera, it can initially be quite daunting to recall exactly where a setting is contained within the extensive menu structure, but the author also provides a helpful settings spreadsheet that is an excellent reference, making it easy to locate any particular feature and also see his suggestions for possible settings for that feature depending upon the type of image to be captured. His book contains over 390 color photographs, so it is best read either in book form on or a device with a color screen. I had initially started reading it on my Kindle Voyage and switched to the Kindle PC app, as the some of the points he makes about the illustrations cannot be easily seen on a monochrome screen.

Bought the camera, started reading the owner’s manual and was not satisfied that I was learning to use the D750 well enough - or fast enough. This book explained camera features in just enough detail so that I coud efficiently grasp what I needed to know to be productive and start having fun! I wouldn’t hesitate to buy, it’s well worth the price.

This is a very useful guide to the Nikon D750 and, for me at least, far more accessible and readable than the manual that comes with the camera. The guide is nicely written and well presented and the clear photographs of the settings and how to access them are most helpful.My only negative comment is that the guide would benefit from an index that would make it easier to locate a camera setting of particular interest. As it stands you have to find the section of the guide that may contain the setting you want and then scroll through to find it. And of course the setting may not be located in the section you chose. So it is a bit hit and miss.However, I am not going to knock off a star for this minor inconvenience as, to repeat, overall this is a most useful and well presented guide.

I have had 3 Nikon DSLR cameras over the past 10 years. The D750 is my most recent purchase. I knew that my knowledge of Nikon's DSLR features was not complete but until I purchased Klostermann's book I never realized how limited my understanding really was. I am extremely grateful to have read the book and to have it as a reference tool. He not only explains the features but also does a very good job of explaining how to do a compete set-up and how each feature effects a shot. The Nikon manual is good but this book certainly fills in a lot of gaps and for me it is a much better education resource. It is well written. My only disappointment is that it is not available in hard copy. A Kindle version is not as easy for me to use when I want to make a quick reference or make notes on the pages. Good job Douglas Klostermann!

I was going to purchase the Thom Hogan Guide to the Nikon D750 since I have previously purchased his d70 and D300 guides. However, it has not been published yet! I saw this on Amazon and the price was very reasonable so I gave it a try. While not quite as thorough as the Thom Hogan guides, it is an excellent manual for this wonderful camera. The Hogan guides go into more detail as far as when and why a particular setting should be changed, but this author does a wonderful job explaining the many settings and gives recommendations for changing the defaults for your particular style of shooting. The author included a couple of pages on composition that probably should have been left out (that's a separate book that cannot be even given an overview in a couple of pages) but you can skip those pages if you want. :)I would recommend this book if you have a D750. Well worth the reasonable price!

absolutely loved it. we are a Christian family trying to raise our little ones with good morals and faith. this book not only captures an identity to who my granddaughters looks like, but the story is very sweet.

The illustrations in this book are so beautiful & precious. I ordered this for my baby girl & for such a great price, i am so happy i did. She is only 1 , but the images capture her attention, turning pages, & allowing me to read her the story. Love it.

I loved this book more than fifty years ago when I was quite small. I would say it impacted me for life--helped me to know that God was love, but God was also a mystery to be in awe of. I've bought countless copies as baby and shower gifts.

I vividly recall this book from my own childhood, and I'm past 50. Feeds a child's spiritual longings with knowledge of God's love with gentle, though awesome (I mean that in the true sense of the word--the only way I use that word) manner.

I used to read this same Golden Book to my children, so much that I actually have most of the book memorized. We bought this for our granddaughter who will hear an amazing story about God just like her mom did.

I love this timeless book on prayer. The reader can tailer the words to match a specific belief system. The illustrations are sweet, innocent, and have a lasting impact. I still remember this book from when I was around 4 or 5.

I had this book when I was a kid and wanted to order one for my two and three year old! It brought back a lot of memories. I wished though that I would have waited until they are a little older, they are still a little bit young to enjoy it like I did. I recommend this book for ages 6 and up.

This Golden Book does a lovey job relating God to the natural world around a child. The illustrations are, clear, colorful, gentle in expression, and engrossing to a child. The book does not identify with any specific religion. I would recommend it to any child .

The lack of a Table of Contents make the Kindle edition of this potentially valuable volume worthless. For some reason the sellers want to charge MORE for the digital edition of this product which costs them substantially less overhead to produce, than they do the print edition. Yet the digital edition needs an active TOC to facilitate search of individual entries. No one will be comfortable flipping through hundreds of page turns to try and find an entry which may or may not be there.Because of this issue I have returned the book for a refund and rated it one-star. Please add a functional, helpful TOC and I will gladly re-purchase the book and alter my review.P.S. I hate driving the average review score of this book down because of an edition specific issue. However, Amazon does not give Kindle owners/lovers the option to review only the Kindle edition of a book.

Can't Imagine research without this text. Just look at the names of the editors to get an idea of the quality of this volume. Imagery explained, but this advanced level text also breaks down (to a summary degree) many books of Scripture. Great source.

From Head to Toe and Happiness to Hanging, the 980 pages between A-Aaron's rod and Z-Zion contain a wealth of information on the rich imagery and literary patterns of the Bible.So often we approach the Bible from a theological point of view, but God, in His multi-faceted wisdom and creativity, has given us His truth wrapped in dazzling layers of imagery, metaphor, and symbols that engage our affective, emotional faculties as well as our cognitive. He uses story and all its literary conventions to present situations to which our human spirits can relate and experience the lessons therein.His Word is replete with metaphors and motifs that appeal to our image-making faculties. Although aware of the power of pictures, most of us have only a cursory understanding of the layers of meaning they convey, whether universal or contextual. How is my body like a tent? My daughter like a corner pillar? My prayer like an arrow?We have many theological resources available to us, but until now, have had little to open the doors to the literary treasures of the Bible. This is a wonderful and amazing resource, when used along side commentaries and concordances the depth of inside to the Word of God is amazing.

I first found this in the reference section of a seminary library while researching an exegetical paper. I quickly discovered that it was something I needed for my personal library. The writing style is engaging enough to actually make me want to read sections on a daily basis just for fun. The price point is surprisingly low for the quality of the content and printing. The only thing that would make it better is if it was available electronically.

However, what is missing is a detailed analysis of how to modernize these current approaches to handle a much different global landscape that is rapidly evolving due to, among many factors, technological advancement.Fortunately, Strategic Intelligence for the 21st Century by Alfred Rolington presents a much needed forward-looking understanding on the future of strategic intelligence. This includes how to improve today's analytical methods to address tomorrow's challenges. This book persuasively articulates how current intelligence functions and structures, including analytical methods and practices, require re-tooling to handle tomorrow's challenges. Challenges that are being led by exogenous technological and social changes that the information revolution is producing on a global scale.This book - which includes a foreword by James Woolsey, the former Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency - is structured into three parts. The first part presents today's methods and practices, which are a product of yesterday's global landscape. The second part discusses the many changes taking place, the driving forces behind these changes, and the unrealized potential of how much information is truly now available (the deep web). The third part dissects the traditional intelligence model in greater depth, including its application in businesses and law enforcement settings.Additionally, the third part is essential as it provides a new methodology to handle the challenges discussed throughout the book. The new methodology introduced focuses on producing improved intelligence products with a better understanding of the underlying causes/issues to reduce intelligence failure. In particular, the book discusses the mosaic network model that includes a networked organizational structure and a horizon-scanning set of processes. This book provides a wide-ranging overview of the history and current state of intelligence - mostly secret intelligence, but also business intelligence - and ends with a provocative argument on how intelligence ought to be reformed.The book is in three parts. The first part covers intelligence-related definitions and background, including the intelligence cycle, intelligence sources, and the history of intelligence. This could have done with some reorganization (perhaps chronologically?) but the book aims to address topics useful for the reader's understanding of the field of intelligence studies widely rather than deeply so it is not hard to follow.The second part is a briefing on some current issues facing the modern intelligence practitioner, including propaganda, conspiracies, economic globalization, the internet, and culture (especially cultural bias). Again, the treatment of topics is quick and wide-ranging.The third and final part of the book sets out proposals for intelligence reform (after a short review of some more background, e.g. on intelligence supervision and business intelligence). These reform proposals are radical, seeking to address the challenges of the information age. Mainly, the `mosaic method' capitalizes on information technologies in order to integrate the exploding range of open-source information with the secret intelligence that is the traditional focus of intelligence agencies.To provide a concrete example, a police force using a `mosaic' or `network' approach might, for instance, deploy a countrywide information technology system such that if `officer Bob' made a routine traffic stop of a person who was a suspected mafia member, `Bob' would be alerted to the organized crime task force's analysis of the person's possible role. Moreover, any observations `officer Bob' made during the stop would in turn be used to flesh out the person's profile on the organized crime task force's analysis of the mafia organization.The book's arguments for such `mosaic' approaches to intelligence make sense - these enhance the understanding of decision-makers (the intelligence `customer') by putting secret intelligence into context; these methods help intelligence analysts `connect the dots' on apparently unrelated issues or individuals; and these approaches use IT systems to turn `footsoldiers' who do routine work (like `officer Bob') into intelligence assets.Having recently seen the movie Zero Dark Thirty, I could grasp this argument - in the film, the main breakthrough in the hunt for Osama bin Laden comes from linking intelligence provided by prisoners with a long-overlooked message from the government of Morocco received years earlier. This is depicted, in the film, as a stroke of luck. It is the kind of thing a `mosaic' or `networked' approach might turn into a regular occurrence.I, personally, read the book from the perspective of a person working in corporate strategy. Hence the first two parts (and first chapters of the third part), which essentially cover context, included much that was new to me. Readers who are intelligence specialists will probably want to focus on the book's final two chapters, which contain the main `mosaic method' and `network approach' arguments.Overall, as a business reader, I found the background sections, which take up most of the book, informative. And when a topic was dull, it was over quickly - no treatment of a topic lasts longer than about two pages, so it is a quick read. Some topic highlights include Machiavelli's The Prince, the dawn of human language, Clinton's fascination with "The Coming Anarchy", and the Gunpowder Plot - which illustrates the range. I felt the organization of these parts could have been better. For instance, Sun Tzu's Art of War follows, rather than precedes, the rise of social media, which for me, as a (perhaps excessively) organized person, was disorienting.The third part, which is the truly novel element of the book, is intriguing. From my business perspective, it parallels what many corporate strategy planning departments are doing (for instance, I have recently worked with a company whose strategy department has begun to deliver its main `intelligence product' to the firm's senior executives as an interactive iPad app).That said, I was left wishing that the book had focused more on the last two chapters. These chapters felt to me like the beginning of an argument, rather than the end. The case for adopting these radical new methods is implicit in the earlier chapters, but could have been made much more explicit - for instance, by showing how recent intelligence failures could have been avoided using the `mosaic method', or by showing how intelligence failures are more likely in the future as a result of the trends discussed. The advantages of the mosaic method would also have been more clear if illustrated with more detailed case studies - I realize this would be hard to do without providing examples of some secret intelligence to show how it would be put in context.Also, possible objections to these new methods are not addressed. For me, the obvious question is counter-espionage. The `mosaic' and `network' strategies seem well-suited to address the modern threat of `disorganized crime', e.g. self-starting terrorist networks. But wouldn't these approaches create vulnerabilities to organized crime networks (or enemy states)? E.g., does the mafia need to corrupt only a single police officer in order to monitor everything the police knows about it? Presumably these issues can be addressed, but it would be interesting to know how.In sum, I found the book an intriguing and useful introduction to the field of intelligence, and a thought-provoking exposition on the potential of `mosaic methods'. I was intrigued enough to hope for a more closely-argued and case-rich exposition in a sequel.
