In XXI century we have seen an evolution of his kind of research. We know after the digital revolution, that scientits has not anymore the monopoly of basic research. Technologists as we see in the digital field and in other high tech areas also perform basic research but with a different approach from scientists. They want design more that simply discover. See H. Donald Stokes' classic book refutes the idea that basic science & applied science are opposites. By introducing a more nuanced concept of the motivations for research, he provides an eye-opening re-analysis of the landscape of research. His classic figure illustrating three quadrants of research motivation is included in the book & is well worth seeing if you are interested in understanding research.

This was required reading in my doctoral program. It delivers an essential concept on the nature of research, and should be on the reading list for any academic.

Good summary of the thinking and history that went on regarding motives for science funding from the end of WWII in the US until the time of book publication. These issues have not gone away. There is still tension between the need for basic science funding and applied science funding that has a specific use in mind. Funding mechanisms for science have changed with more being channeled through universities today. Book has good references in the back and lots of detail with good comments about the political leanings and decisions of the times.

Great book. This is not a typical book on science the author gives a great view of science and technology. A must read for people who might want to understand science vs technology!

I bought this cook book in hopes of getting some inspiration on fairly simple & healthy recipes for the slow cooker....I was a little disappointed. I don't really understand using a crock pot for a meal that could just as easily be prepared on the stove in the same time frame. None of these recipes are really fix it & forget it....many of them have steps at 4 hrs, 6 hrs and again before serving. Also....I noticed many recipes want you to pre-cook the ingredients. I really wanted healthy recipes where I could dump ingredients in the cooker in the morning, go to work for 8 -10 hours and come home to a ready meal.

I am going to be very honest about this cookbook because it really is phenomenal, so long as you're looking to change how you eat and get healthy without (much) compromising on flavor. I bought this cookbook in Jan. 2015. Since then, I rotate between this and one other low calorie cookbook. Between the two, I've lost over 50 lbs. This cookbook is neither the easiest nor the cheapest one in my repetoire to cook out of, but it is the healthiest, especially in terms of sodium and fat content. Some of my all time favorite recipes are in this cookbook as well (Mexican chicken with sweet potatoes and that veggie pasta casserole are some of my best go-tos, but the seafood main dishes in this cookbook really shine). Over two years later and I'm still exploring new, fun things in this cookbook. However, the recipes often -- but not always -- call for a lot of prep time and use higher-end ingredients. But I consider that a small sacrifice on my fitness journey, and I don't know where I'd be today without this cookbook. I also bought it as a brand new cook, and I managed just fine as a cooking newbie.

This is one of those books I regret purchasing because while it shipped Prime I could not return it without paying the shipping cost. The book pretty much sucks (hate to be so blunt but that is how I feel). I wanted a heart healthy book that had easy to make recipes. This is not that book. There is far too much prepping, weighing and cooking - both before and after the cooking. The book relies heavily on things like no salt added beans or fat free sour cream or fat free cheese. Well if I am going to eat healthily I will certainly make my own beans in my pressure cooker or slow cooker so that I can avoid the salt and any other stuff they put in the can. And once you tell me to use fat free substitutes - most of which are made with gross//non-fresh ingredients you have lost me. Ditto with telling people to cook with Worcestershire or soy sauce - even if you are using the lowest sodium possible. I also object to cooking spray in a can. I prefer to use the olive oil that I have in my own sprayer. There is no meal plan and too much meat. I could see lots of people making bad choices. There are too many sweet dishes - heart healthy is not only about limiting fat and cholesterol but also sugar. For instance, why not have a recipe for quinoa, kale, and garlic rather than maple syrup quinoa. Finally, the whole point of a slow cooker is to be able to make things while you are away. I can make many of the things that are in this book faster and more easily (both in terms of cooking and cleaning) and probably healthier than this set of recipes.

A big part of eating nutritional food involves careful selection of ingredients, some special tastes to make nutritional eating and positive experience so that boredom does not set in. Additionally, there is a wide variety of food types to suite individual nutritional goals; low calorie, versus, low cholesterol, versus low fat, versus low sale or a balance of combinations.Instructions are concise and easy to follow. It is a cookbook, not a "how to cook dinner in five minutes" book. The slow cooker process is used appropriately to enhance flavor and to reduce cook tending time. There actually is no special food handling or preparation and the end result looks good on a nice dinner table.

There are a lot of recipes in this book and they cover a broad range of meal types and tastes. The recipes are easy enough to follow and there are good pointers for general slow cooking in the book.But I'm only giving it three stars because all of the recipes I've tried have been very bland despite a large amount of jalapenos and onions and seasoning, etc. The blandness combined with the lack of texture in the food is a bummer, and I've stopped using the cookbook.

We purchased this as a gift for my sister-in-law. She is a great cook but was looking for a way to make some healthier meals. She loves this! It has a good variety of meal ideas and she is getting to put her crockpot to work. She has tried out some of the recipes on me - and I am very thankful I picked a good recipe book.

We've made numerous things from this book and found them to be yummy and very satisfying. I noticed some folks complained about pre preparation for some of the crock pot dishes. This did not bother us because the time in the crock pot really blended the flavor and made the food fork cutting tender. Just knowing we can still eat tasty things that are still healthy is great. Did not seem to miss any flavor as the crock pot time adds it's own flavor component. Very pleased with this book!!

I enjoy reading the Israel Bible. Since it was a bit heavy to hold I also got the kindle version of the Israel Bible. I was disappointed that I could not find a way to move from book to book in the Bible. I found it not usable at all. If it is ever upgraded and user friendly I would buy it again.

Interesting concept. The book reads from back to front to accommodate the Hebrew in the right column with the English on the left. It would be possible to learn to read Hebrew I suppose by using the juxtaposition. That might be beyond me. It is an interesting translation.

I give the printed version 5 stars but the lack of Hebrew in the kindle version is a major disappointment.

The Israel Bible is a real blessing! We are enjoying reading the Scriptures with their original meanings.And the commentaries on each page are interesting and helpful to us Christians wanting to know more about the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Who is also our Loving Heavenly Father.

I like the foot notes at the bottom of the page, it gives more understand of history to the verse or chapter. It is easy to use, once you understand how the format of Jewish writings are laid out. The print is a bit light, so if the printer would put a little more ink on the page; it would be easier to read.

This Bible was a present for my 80 year old mother. She loved it because it has English and Hebrew side by side not that she can read Hebrew but she really thought that was cool.

When the cover is removed, you immediately feel the sacredness on another level.This is an excellent book of the Of the TaNaK (Torah, Neviim, Ketuvim) aka Old Testament.The best part in my opinion is that there is a commentary of one verse on almost every page that gives youa feel of what is the mindset of certain Rabbis, Sages, and Scribes that reflect the land or people of Israel.This has become an excellent resource for me for studying both the First Covenant and Renewed Covenant.aka Old Testament and New Testament.

The Bible was received in perfect condition, sealed in wrap, and packaged securely. The Israel Bible is an excellently done work and in my opinion is very informative.

Years ago, I stumbled into my dream job. The organization was horizontal, not hierarchical. Staff members were encouraged and we worked with PM's as a team. We enjoyed our jobs. We worked hard. We even laughed. Oh yeah, and the office was profitable as well. James Lewis shares this vision of Project Management. This takes up the first half of the book. It made me nostalgic for the dream job I had before the corporate headquarters "fixed it". (Result: out of an office of 15 - 20 people, at least 10 of them - scientists, engineers, and technicians - quit.)Too bad corporate America does not embrace Lewis' dream. The aversion to risk that has gripped corporations over the past 4 years has made an already restrictive environment even more so. It didn't and doesn't have to be this way.I will use this book to continue to increase my understanding of aspects of project management, such as Controls. These "nuts and bolts" of project management are in the 2nd half of the book. Lewis describes the point of controls quite well. He provides 3 different scenarios and their solutions.

I have used Dr, Lewis's book: Project Planning, Scheduling, and Control for many years as a class text for master degree courses at two universities. At the completion of the class, the students consistently list the book as the highest priority item in a list of "things done right" in class "lessons learned" evaluations. Dr. Lewis has written a classic. The book energizes students into wanting to learn project management in accordance with its friendly reading style. Dr. Lewis takes the reader through the process of project management using an approachable writing style that appeals to everyone. He makes a potentially dry topic interesting for all!

It’s not a bad book but I would say there are plenty others that are better. The author tends to go over concepts repetitively and it gets really boring to read after a whils.

I'm new at project management and I found the book quite helpful. I'm taking one star off for the proliferation of generic clip art and stock photos that add nothing to the book other than taking up a lot of space.

Needed this book for a Project Management course and I have to say it was just okay. I have read a few of Lewis's books and have felt the same way. Maybe it's me and I just cannot connect but it was really nothing special about it. However on the bright side I did get it for a decent price used.

I got more than what I paid for with this valuable text and reference. This is great for the desktop library and helps with the focus on creating win-wins with the little details of the managerial day. What a bargain :-) :-)
