This is the size of a children's book, so beware of the size dimensions before purchasing. I was hoping for a comprehensive picture book of the most well know jewels (diamonds specifically) with close up detail. What I got was a poorly written description of a handful of diadem's with some of the photos poorly placed over two pages or cut off entirely. Waste of money.

A great little book to add to your library if you don't want to buy the Queen's Diamonds book by Hugh Roberts. It will also work as a companion if you already have the big book (as I do). The book is perfect in information, photos, price and size so it is a pleasure to read or to give (X-mas is coming). Enjoy!

The jewels are beautiful. The settings are fabulous. I have always appreciated the jewels worn by Her Majesty the Queen and how they can be put together in many different combinations. Stones may be removed fron one piece and easily replaced with other gems. Tiaras become necklaces or headbands, etc. I love their versatility. The photographs are marvelous and the detail shown is amazing. I have one little quibble: a photograph is attibuted to Antony Armstrong Jones, b. 1893. He was born in 1930. I also wish there had been descriptions of the emeralds and rubies, etc. shown in the detailed enlargements. Only the diamonds were described. All in all, a very beautiful book and well worth the price.

I realize this book is pricey, but well worth it. Filled with portraits and royal history as well as fantastic photos of the items. I am an antique jewelry appraiser and gemologist. So, I admit to having a special interest in adding this book to my shelf of reference books.

Very nice book, focuses mostly on the tiaras rather than the smaller jewels.

My wife read it from cover to cover.

Absolutely gorgeous pictures and stories about the jewelry.

While this isn't as poetically presented as other similar books, there is a lot of important information, as chelios played for 3 decades in the nhl. It's almost like a brief history of the game, and how it has changed over time. Not sure how slashing other players makes you a tough guy, but then that is the prevailing opinion amongst hockey players. The chelios style of play isn't really prevalent today, but back in his time it was indeed important. The Mike Keenan stories are precious as usual.

As I read this autobiography of Chicago native Chris Chelios, I would swear that it was a discussion that he and I were having about his hockey career. Still bummed that the Chicago Blackhawks unceremoniously dismissed Chris and he finished his career in Detroit. Still as a Chris Chelios fan, this is definitely a must read!!! Hope to one day meet Cheli and have him autograph it for me!

Mostly a chronological telling of Cheli's career, with some amusing anecdotes and efforts to "set the record straight" on key moments. The writing level is probably middle school, which makes the book accessible for all audiences, but adults might wish for a more nuanced reflection from Chris about his life and times, the NHL, etc. Maybe he wrote in response to the questions he gets most often, but I was hoping for something a little more thought-provoking.

I loved the book. Pure entertainment for any fan of the Warrior.

Excellent book. Hard to put down. Kept your interest from page 1 until the end. His passion for the game and all out commitment to be the best he good be for as long as he played the game gave me a respect for Chris that more players could learn from. I can understand how other players looked up to him. His leadership qualities were second to none.

Chris Chelios has been my favorite hockey player since I was a little kid. I almost never read biographies but I made an exception for Chris and I'm 100% glad that I did. It was the best book I've ever read. It wasn't one of those books that describes a person's life with absolutely no emotion or feeling at all. It was emotion filled, funny moments throughout the book and an amazing story of how he got where he is today. If you enjoy hockey, I very strongly recommend you read this book. I absolutely loved it!

It's a homer rating I know but as an American and a Badger I will not apologize. He does talk about being a Badger and even more about Madison bars. (I did find it odd that he referred to Camp Randall as Randall Stadium though.)This really fills in a lot of details in and around hockey over the last few decades. There were several stories where I remember the buzz and back story, so to hear it from the player's perspective is fun. I also enjoyed the insights into all of the different coaches he had over the years.Badger Bob: Chelios, lions don't eat popcorn!

This is an interesting picture of a contemporary hockey player who was with various teams. His background and career are interesting to anyone who watches hockey or played it.

And it is, but it's much more than that.Sharing Christ With the Dying is divided into four parts:-Who Shall Go? (why we would want to take on this work)-What You Need Along the Way (signs of openness, answers to common questions, and practical advice on hospice as well as support for the caregiver)-No Turning Back (staying on track in difficult times, plus practical information on making arrangements)-Journey's End (the last days of life and how to grieve well)Author Melody Rossi has walked alongside family members as friends as they neared the end of their lives on earth. She knows of what she speaks, and her examples are encouraging.I was happily surprised that the book contains so much practical information about topics like hospice, insurance, and paperwork. It's about more than sharing Christ: it's also about helping caregivers cope with physical, emotional, and spiritual fatigue. I believe that a resource like Sharing Christ With the Dying will help caregivers in practical and spiritual ways as they provide comfort and show the love of Christ.What was especially interesting to me is the chapter called "Physical Changes." I'll share a paragraph from the beginning of the chapter:KNOWLEDGE EMPOWERSThere are specific physical changes that occur before the time of death. Knowing these will empower you and make you more effective in three significant ways. First, this is your last call for taking care of unfinished spiritual business. If you have been waiting for an appropriate time, this is it. You may have been quietly working in the background, serving, gaining trust, and following the lead of the Holy Spirit. Now it is time to come forward and be completely frank with your loved one, for it is truly now or never.(The second and third ways? Second, understanding the physical changes to expect "will keep you from panicking or overreacting." Third, "knowing the visible signs of death ... will help you see the finish line.")I am definitely telling friends about Sharing Christ With the Dying and keeping a copy on my shelf for whenever I need it!

The information and advice is useful, helpful, gentle, and presented well. The revelation of the terminal diagnosis of a loved one is the start point, and the author follows the entire process step by step throughout her book.The different stages the loved one will go through physically and emotionally show the caregiver different levels of receptivity to considering Christ. Rossi addresses how to deal with angry outbursts, demanding behaviors from the loved one, and the physical stages of the dying process. Other issues like the roles of friends and family members gives the reader valuable insights as well.Pre-need planning appears later in the book and Rossi discussed how helpful having important papers, directives, and desires ready for the surviving family can be. So much stress can be alleviated if that is settled well before the need arises.There is much more in this book that I found helpful and wished I’d known long ago. There is also an index with many helpful resources to check out.One note---this book was originally published in 2007 as May I Walk You Home. I do not know if this issue is different in any major ways. That said, I do recommend this book and found much of her advice to be pertinent in other situations as well.This book was provided to me by the publisher in exchange for a review.

The author takes any guilt we may feel about the person's response, or lack, because it isn't up to us to save them.Mostly what I learned from this book is that during this time in a person's life, we are called to be servants. We are to help when and where we can. We may be the ones to plant the seed of salvation, water it, or watch it blossom. Their are only a couple of books on Exadata and this one is certainly the best one. Their are approximately 3000 Exadata installations per Oracle Support Mgmt. When I was researching which Exadata book to buy I only found 3 or 4 other books. I read excerpts from the other Exadata books and they do not go into the level of detail that Expert Oracle Exadata goes into. The authors are well known in the industry and the book is well written. The only issue I have is that I am working on Exadata X3 and this book was written for the X2. Obviously this does not reflect on the quality of the book and most of it does apply to the X2.It would have been nice to have a chapter on ZFS and using ZFS to backup Exadata. Many Exadata implementations use ZFS because it is the only back solution (currently) that will plug into the Infiniband network on Exadata. It is the fastest way to backup Exadata at several Terabytes per hour.Most of the chapter on parallel execution can be applied to non-Exadata and it does a great job of explaining new features in 11g.The most important chapter is Chapter 2. After reading this chapter you will know how to determine if Smart Scans (aka offloading) are working for your SQL. The book will give you a few ideas on how to modify your environment to enable Smart Scans and see if they help or not.Chapter 10 covers wait events and it also a very important chapter. The wait events that are specific to Exadata are documented here with examples and comparisons to non-Exadata DBs. The examples include SQL traces that help you determine if Smart scans are working or not.

I've been a DBA for 30 years and dealing with Oracle for about 19. I like to read a lot and love to know more and more of Oracle even if the subject is not part of my daily life, as Exadata. This book does grasp the attention. It is deep (the way I like) and we can see the author does know what he talks about. The level of details is very adequate and precise. I could understand Exadata very well and feel prepared to work with it one day.

Written in a surprisingly readable style, this one took me off the fence regarding Exadata. Here you will find thorough research well-presented. If you are at all interested in this technology and would like to know more, and get it in a non-whitepaper, non-hyped way, this book won't disappoint. My congrats to the author on a great job.

Given that when Exadata came out this guy (and a few others) simply decided they would get an Exadata and take it apart, I would think they could write a good book. The book lives up to the authors reputation. A must have for anyone using an Exadata at any level.

I had attended Kerry Osborne's presentations at Hotsos and had a few conversations with him about Exadata but I didn't realize he was writing a book with Tanel Poder and Randy Johnson. I am moving to a new assignment implementing ERP systems on Exadata and I am very appreciative that this book was available at the right time for me. It answered all my basic questions about the technology and it offers practical guidance on getting the best performance from this complex system.

The print in the book is soo small that I cannot even read the book I am extremely frustrated with this publication for that reason. I cannot even comment on the actual material because I cannot read the small print.

This book is really good if you have started working with Exadata. It covers all the major areas with good amount of details and examples for beginners.
