Black Butler is one of my favorite anime, but I think the manga could be even better. Where the first volume establishes the characters and the setting, this one really gets into the action and introduces great characters like the "real" Grell Sutcliff, Lau, and the Undertaker. Unlike in the anime, the manga takes advantage of the format and gives you glimpses into Sebastian's thoughts about Ciel (his only talent is getting kidnapped) and the servants (apparently he sees them as imbeciles). In fact I really felt more like I "knew" Sebastian the character after reading the manga.The author really goes through some involved twists to finally get Ciel into a party dress, and I did find it hilarious. Black Butler is great and one of those hard-to-find things; a wholly original idea executed beautifully.

This manga is about a young boy who promised his soul to a demon in exchange for help finding the identity of the people who killed his parents and getting revenge against them. In the meantime, the demon masquerades as his butler and takes orders from him. The setting is in Victorian England, and the artwork is beautiful. I often find myself wanting Ciel's clothes. The storylines are at times funny and at times dark and serious. I especially enjoyed reading the author's behind-the-scenes stories at the very end of the manga, which you don't get if you only read the manga in serialized form. Some of the themes in the manga are dark, so it's more suitable for older children and adults.

Black Butler is a fun sort of paranormal, steampunk, alternate victorian reality romp. I really enjoy it. If you're coming to the manga from the anime, there are some character differences, and a little dissonance. The english Funimation dialog was quite good, but the manga is better with backstory, innuendo and some slapstick. I will continue to buy them, as I enjoy the series so far. The characters are quirky and often hilarious (Undertaker LOL).

I really liked volume 2. It is nice to see a little more of Sebastian's evil side peaking out with every new volume. I didn't think I would like this series when my daughter insisted I try it, but it has become one of my favorites. The weird relationship between Ciel, the young master, and Sebastian, his devil bound manservant is interesting in itself. The bumbling house staff and interesting touches of victorian England flesh out the stories nicely. Ciel is in service to the Queen and has to track down the infamous Jack the Ripper. This is the first part to that story, which also introduces some interesting new characters (love the creepy undertaker!). As usual the artwork is really beautiful, though I sometimes wish she wouldn't use such small print for her side notes. Overall, you won't be disappointed in this one.

I've been following the manga since the Noah's ark circus arc and have to say I enjoyed this act as well this volume concludes 'the Weston collage arc' and begins 'the green witch arc' this arc ends in a very shocking twist that's all I'll say so I won't spoil it for you, there's also a in-between chapter about ciel and Sebastian dealing with characters form a previous arc which is hilarious and as usall the artwork is great. Over all I recommend this volume to fans of the series.

This volume was just as good as the first, if not better. The author Yana Toboso continues to explain more of the characters' past experiences and motives. In this volume, Sebastian and Ciel are suppose to help discover who Jack the Ripper is on behalf of the queen. This volume contanis the famous scenes of Ciel in a dress. Yes, it's as adorable as you think it is. The artwork is beautiful. The backgrounds and clothing contain lots of details so it's a feast for the eyes. I don't want to say more about the story because it will ruin it. Trust me, it's good. There is a cliffhanger at the end of this volume that is immedaitely resumed in volume 3.

I ordered this volume along with nine other volumes from the same series. All of the books came to me as described , new. The condition was great; no nicks, bends or tears anywhere. The covers were shiny and free from finger prints (except my own I made during observation.) They all arrived within the estimated delivery time frame and were packaged well.5 out of 5 stars.

The author paints two pictures: the first a nightmare scenario where the vast majority of citizens are, as soon as their inevitable obsolescence by the machines, warehoused and forgotten, leaving the elite few ownership class to reap the rewards of the automation while the rest wallow in tedium and obscurity, the second a seemingly utopian alternative where the machines augment people's abilities instead of replace them, where the collective benefits of the machines are shared. What I found most interesting was that in both scenarios the author presented a seemingly inevitability of loss of personal liberties. While in scenario 2 the citizens lived in luxury, in the process they also gave up a not small part of their humanity or even free will (in the process taking a deep turn into science fiction territory), leaving a reader to question which would be more insidious: living in a box with your actions monitored and controlled externally, or living with augmentations but at a price of your humanity. I think it would be easy to dismiss this parable as anti-capitalist, but I speculate that the author is more interested in directions of innovation instead of governance or economy - demonstrating the outcomes when the machines are designed to either usurp or augment.

I fell that the technical plausibility and technical detail of this work was spot-on, and that the dystopia presented in the first half of the book was both believable and enlightening. I think the writing and the storytelling were better in the opening chapters and degraded slightly over the course of the book. I finished the first chapter thinking that I could probably write the software for a research-grade prototype of a system like "Manna" and I finished the second chapter well-aware of the very plausible dangers of such a system.I was less impressed with the second half of the book and feel that, from a storytelling perspective, this book's Utopia should have had a clearer dark side. I think the author left hooks in the book where such a thing could have been developed further, even while leaving a twisted utopia that was better than the world presented in the first half of the book. It could even have been written in such a way as to make the main character unaware of the negative aspects of his newfound Paradise while leaving them clear for the reader (perhaps the book was attempting to do exactly this and I missed it).I encourage the author of this work to write another book with basically the same premise, but more refined writing and more nuanced storytelling. I also encourage the reading of this book at technology-oriented book clubs, as it seems likely to produce a heated debate over ideas.

This book sure is something else.I've been digging into the whole 'post-scarcity economy' thing for years after having first been introduced to the concept by Jacques Fresco of The Venus Project [...], James P. Hogan's "Voyage from Yesteryear" and The Culture Series from Ian Banks. I've seen the dystopian version from The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson and Counting Heads by David Marusek.But this book Manna, drives the science fiction into the harsh limelight of the soon-to-be future. It doesn't even require real AI or advanced nanotechnology to achieve it. It all starts with a desktop computer in a back office and radio headset like they wear at the fast food restaurants.After reading this book, you'll never look at those employees wearing those headsets the same way again.After reading this book, you'll be wanting to find out where you can sign up for the post-scarcity civilization as how it should be.The book is simple, told in a narrative style by the protagonist much in the same style as Jules Verne, in my view. But that's the point: The plot is only supposed to be the vehicle to show you what is coming and how we can adapt to it as a new phase of civilization dawns on humanity.Certain details get overlooked in the process, such as how some of the things the expert software system MANNA tells/does to the employees that would get that employer in hot water with the lawyers (especially in California). But then again those details don't really matter, as the reader becomes convinced that the paradigm shift of robots taking away 90% of human jobs will happen no matter what kind of obstacles are placed in its way.For 99 cents and only 79 pages of reading time, this book is worth its weight in gold.

A very engaging little work somewhere between a short story and a novella. I found the dystopian side a bit more plausible, given what has been revealed to us about human nature over the last 5,000 years or so and that part of the story is develped in a nice cinematic trajectory from the initial spare and foreboding sentence gathering momentum from its own internal logic. Brain extends several tendencies already extant and builds a fairly coherent cautionary tale of where automation, corporate control and the surveillance state could easily lead us.The utopian side is fun but slightly unconvincing- kind of like a super optimistic techno/futuristic TED talk on steroids- from complete common ownership of ALL resources and ubiquitous robotic means of production through direct brain/cyber interface all the way to a Matrix-like (though cheerfully non-judgemental) dissociation of humans from their pesky bodies...except, of course, for the all important brain, floating in a rack of tanks somewhere...a little creepy. Definitely someone else's utopia.So, the slightly creepy (to me) technological singularity parts aside, all in all, a quick and entertaining ride.

This has a great variety of dishes, and step by step instructions, so I hope I can get motivated to follow the program. You can find some valuable tips like, benefits and drawbacks of the ketogenic diet, The best tips for keto diet management, the importance of meal prepping and how to start. I liked this book and would recommend it for those who are in need of such type of information.

I switched to keto diet over a year ago, and bought a good bunch of cookbooks since then to keep the exciting diversity in my meals.This book was my latest buy and I can say I am totally satisfied with what I got gor my money. There is a considerable and detailed breakdown of all the benefits of keto and how it's working and what foods it includes which woukd be extremely helpful for new keto followers out there.and then the recipes are pretty great too, many of them are new to me and I like the entire collection - kinda gives a strong base to start from.

I just started my keto diet. There are incredible recipes in this cookbook. It is easy enough to cook any dish if you follow the instructions. It is written in detail about what kind of food you should eat and what kind of food you should avoid. It is also good that the ketogenic diet is well combined with intermittent fasting. It gives a good result.

This keto meal prep is my favorite book for keto diet. To follow the keto diet properly and get the best result this is the perfect guide i prefer. I picked this one up. So, I was happily surprised to find that there's a lot of good stuff in this book! Not only that, but there were some new, interesting, and innovative recipes that I was super excited to try. Beef wraps spiced with cumin turned out delicious.

Just read this one yesterday, and, as was the case with all of the pieces of his that I've read so far, Mark Horrell painted a rather vivid picture of what trekking through that remote part of the world still is, warts and all. I really enjoy reading his descriptions of the people he encounters, as well as the places, because he tends to not try to gloss over the less-than-pretty aspects of these kinds of trips. Somehow he manages to make all the misery that seems to be inextricably entwined with these treks funny (in an "Angela's Ashes" sort of way) and makes you feel as though you're slogging through the muck right along next to him.

Having done the Gokyo - Cho La last year I really enjoyed Marks comments on his trek and climbs. Planning to return in 2013 to do the Three Passes of Khumbu, so his comments on Renjo La were very helpful. However as an "old" trekker, now 64, I found his condescending comments on the elderly Japanese trekkers distasteful along with his thoughts near Namche Bazar about them tottering along on their walking poles and wondering why they did not do it when they were younger. Perhaps they were too busy making an income to bring up your generation. Mark, I think you should be commending them for attempting their trips instead of relegating them to homes for the aged. But apart from this, it was a great read and highly recommended for anyone thinking of going to the area.

For $1 on Kindle can't go wrong. Good little book on a trek from Lukla to Mera and Island Peaks and then to Goyko and back to Lukla. Well worth the dollar spent.

Gives insights into what it is like to trek the Himalayas and also into the Nepal culture.

The first "book" I read by Mark Horrell confused me a little, more or less dumping the reader into one of Mark's journeys into the high mountains without any real background but after reading two or more of these accounts you will get his style and just plain enjoy his descriptions of some distant destination, often lesser known that most mountaineering adventure spots. I would love to be have been able to live the life he has!

I have come to quite enjoy each of Mark Horrell's travel diaries, not only because of their details of what it's like to participate in a commercial trek or climb, but because of the self-effacing and witty style in which they're written. While I don't always get the British sense of humour, it's evident that some of the trek participants don't either! Entertaining!

Have other M Horrell's books. All are entertaining, earthy language is not off-putting to me...the book has detailed descriptions that helps me understand climbing better. Great photos.

This is the second of Horrell's books that I have read and it was much better that the first, Snowman trek. This one kept me looking forward to reading further. I enjoyed his discriptions of the climbing and of the trek to get to where he eventually summitted the mountain. I do recommend this book.

He then walked away from their brief time together without a backwards glance to pursue his career. Three months later, the h found herself preggers. She tried to tell him about the pregnancy, but saw a cleat bunny leaving his apartment and then heard him giving the bunny a spiel as to why they can’t be together. She took off thinking he also saw her as a bunny.Present: the two meet up again. The H is a pitcher in the major league and the h is a sports reporter who happen to be covering him. They reconnect. The H finds out about his daughter. He’s upset that the h kept her from him and that his name is not on the birth certificate. He doesn’t care that she tried to tell him when she saw the bunny leaving his apartment or that she called a number he changed without telling her. She decided not to tell him later because she felt it was best for him to focus on the game and not his daughter since he was on his way to becoming a big baseball star.No likes; I didn’t like characters much. The H was an arrogant jerk who couldn’t keep it in his pants after only 3 months apart from the h. He also acted like it was all the h’s fault that she didn’t try hard enough to let him know about her pregnancy. The ding dong h shouldn’t have taken all the blame for not telling him about the pregnancy. And how many times can the H say “you’re on the pill right” after forgetting to put on a condom? Apparently more than once. The h was also too driven by her hormones that sex was all she thought about when they saw each other again. She did not make him work for her. She pretty much offered herself to him right off the bat.Likes : the past and present alternate chapters. Dual point of views. The daughter was cute.

Zach has enjoyed much success in his life. He has not only pitched in the Majors but he has won the Cy Young as well. He thinks his life is perfect until he sees his college sweetheart Lacey.Lacey has matured in the five years since she has seen Zach and is now a reporter for the New York Times and Zach is her next story.Zach regrets that he chose baseball over his girl but he didn’t think he could have both. Now that he has seen her again he wants what they should have had five years ago but will she be willing to open up and trust him so that they may have their second chance?This story has a little drama, a few twists but it also shows that their time apart has allowed them to mature and realize what they want and need from life and each other so they can appreciate what they have together. This is my first book by this author but I would definitely read her future books. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is a fast-reading story of a pro baseball player who left the love of his life behind five years earlier to pursue a promising baseball career, and it switches from past to present and from his POV to hers to create a more comprehensive picture of their relationship.Is it predictable? Yeah, but that doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable. It could have done with fewer f-bombs, and there are some explicit sex scenes, but parts of the story are sweet. Plus, it's always nice to get to that happily ever after ending, even if you know it's coming.

As some one who has worked at a baseball stadium, which is mentioned in this book, for 20+ years, I LOVED this book. Even the fact that it mentioned the Phillies and the Mets couldn't make me not like it...lolI really liked Lacey and Zach. Lacey was smart and a great mom. Zach was a sexy baseball player who went after what he wanted. The story and characters in this book were all phenomenal.

This book has so much to love. A great second chance story with a bonus sports related story. The characters are very interesting and diverse. Added to a story line that will keep you reading until the very end so you can find the HEA. Loved it!

Giving up the love of God his life to play major league baseball seemed like the right choice until he saw her again. Can Zach make it right this time around?

They meet in college. But he couldn't stay faithful. Don't care how the author played this story line. He was a jerk. He didn't deserve to know about her life after he left. Now they are back in the same circle of work. She reports he plays baseball. Will they get their acts together?

A new series that I know I want to read the next book a well-written story of a second chance, it kept my interest until the end. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and I also bought it.
