This book is an outstanding resource for anyone with basic carpentry skills who is looking to build a timber frame structure. It will not convert you into a grand master overnight, but careful reading of this book will prevent you from dying under a pile of collapsed 2x6's. Contrary to what some posters have stated, this book provides a wealth of technical data. However, it also explores the spiritual side of working with wood and building such structures. What this book will not do is tell you how to use a cross-cut hand saw, or the appropriate use of a slick. But it's not exactly rocket science.

After some additional hands on training, this book will be my number one reference for building my own timber frame home.

Great building manual....yeah take it to the job site and use it....covers everything you need to know to do the job right.

I have somewhere over a dozen titles on timber frame construction. This is the one I keep referring back to when it comes to my own construction plans. It is not written as a commercial for the next timber frame workshop as many of these books are. It shows several different building and roof styles rather than a single one. Good detail on joints and joinery as well as planning figures are included. All in all this book is excellent reference material for someone actually wishing to build.

Dated (1980's) so don't expect a lot of current technology for this ancient craft. A pretty good read and part of my collection. This book is also co-authored by Sobon. Of the three (Build a Classic Timber-Framed House, Timber Frame Construction: All About Post-and-Beam Building and this one), you need this one the least. Interesting history but not so much on the construction aspect.

I'm building a 8x10 shed using timber framing joinery. This is my first attempt at timber framing. The book offered a good overview and very good information on the types of joints and why you would want to use a particular one. What I really like was he showed how to actually lay out some of the cuts, like the angled end cuts on braces.

Best timber framing resource by far. This doesn't tell you how to build a shed, but provides all the info for building a home.

Very interesting. I can tell that the author did ann that he or she could to make 'entertaining' as well as 'educating' the audience a top priority.

There are precious few books available which deal with the writing and production of shorts, which is odd considering the grown explosion the form has gone through the last few years, so I almost hate to be critical of what information is available. That said, this 1994 guide is in desperate need of updating, as it does not deal with short films in the digital medium. Now that digital video has made it even easier to produce a short--not to mention that it's opened up the possibilities of what can be accomplished on film on a budget--the process of making a short needs to be addressed in the current context. In addition, with the number of internet sites specializing in shorts, and the practice of most film festivals of accepting digital submissions, the possibilities of making and distributing a short have far outgrown what this book covers. Please, Mr. Levy--give us a new edition of this fine guide!

Edmond Levy in one book has given me a basic outline of what I would need to construct a film from start to finish.The beginning touches on screenwriting techniques, then moves into some pre-production necessities. From there he briefly touches on production and then a short chapter on post-production (editing) and distribution.This is a survey book and is in no means somthing to take as the "end all say all." But if you are curious or have some very general questions about the topic, then this is the book for you.

This book does an excellent job on the basics: how to write a treatment, develop a script thru the process of story outline and character profiles, the use of storyboards, the basics of directing and editing and on and on. It's all basic, yes, but a good starting point for the beginning filmmaker. The emphasis is the short, independent filmmaker where most of us started and most future great filmmakers will also. I use it for a course I teach for the American Film Institute called Movie Camp and in the basic moviemaking course I teach at Montgomery College. The students seem to find it very valuable.

This is just another "how to make a film book". We are taken step by step through all the processes and given insight into the technicalities. However, it feels like you've heard it all before. Good for the begginer.

Okay, so I’ve been putting off writing this review while I try to process my feelings about it. Here are my thoughts, in no particular order:1. There was nothing particularly surprising in this book or in any of the other books that have been released about Trump, except this book describes the lengths to which his staff go in order to handle him—taking documents off his desk before he can sign them, conducting meetings prior to meetings to try to agree on an approach2. The book itself was disjointed and unfocused. Perhaps Woodward did this on purpose to try to portray a chaotic and unfocused administration, but I honestly am left wondering why he felt he had to write the book now and why he was in such a hurry to release it. I felt as though the book was not finished—it ends abruptly when McGahn resigns and I’m not sure if there was a point to it ending then or if it was just the last thing Woodward could cover before he could meet his publishing deadline.3. Bannon comes off surprisingly well in this book. I suspect he is a source for much of the info.4. Woodward comes across as lukewarm on the Mueller investigation. I doubt that is his intent, however he is being so careful to try to present things from the point of view of Trump and his team that he gives the impression that he is somewhat sympathetic to them.5. Repeatedly we see Trump refusing to look at evidence, especially if it contradicts his own long-held beliefs. For instance, one of his economic advisers says that his role is to identify the underlying statistics that confirm Trump’s instincts, and Trump’s instincts when it comes to the economy are always correct.6. This book reinforces that Trump views everything from a profit motive. He obsesses over the fact that countries benefit from the US military without helping to pay for it, not understanding the strategic importance of using our military around the world. He gets all excited when Afghanistan promises him the mineral rights in exchange for our military support, not realizing that the minerals in Afghanistan are totally inaccessible and are useless to anyone.7. And everything comes through a filter of how it impacts Trump. This is the only thing he cares about.But he knew that. We knew it before the election, and nothing has changed except he’s become even more boorish and less conciliatory. My guess is that the Trump apologists will do what they always do and shrug this book off- fake news, poorly researched, lies, etc. Those opposed to Trump who have been following his presidency at all will shrug and say, “Yeah, tell us something we don’t know.” (This is pretty much where I am.)The key target audience is, of course, the in-betweeners, and despite all the teeth gnashing and hand wringing about this book, if they haven’t figured everything that is in this book out already, then they are willfully sticking their heads in the sand and aren't going to change nowSo bottom line, for me, is that I truly don’t understand why Woodward wrote this book at this point in time. My husband says he was trying to impact the elections, and that may be it. Somehow, I just don’t see it, though. I think voters have Trump fatigue. I think they are tired of the whole thing, and most of them have probably already decided for whom they will vote. At this point, Mueller could come out and tell everyone that he has discovered all of Hillary’s missing emails on Trump’s servers and found evidence that Trump and Clinton are colluding together on pizza gate, and it still wouldn’t have an impact on anything. These are, indeed, strange and scary times.

Bob Woodward has not written a conventional biography of Donald Trump. His book, "Fear: Trump in the White House". is 42 chapters long, with each chapter being another tale of woe about Trump and his time in the White House. As with all Bob Woodward books, it is very plainly written. There's not much flowery writing in "Fear", just the facts. Woodward lets the reader put their own interpretation on what he's written; unfortunately, most readers - like me - will see facts that add up to a disaster of a presidency.Should fans of Donald Trump buy and read "Fear"? Yes, but they probably won't because the truth, as accounted by Bob Woodward, is not an easy read. I'm a liberal Democrat - horrified by Donald Trump and his presidency since the time when Trump came down the escalator in Trump Tower in 2015 - and I'm finding it difficult to have my greatest fears verified.I also find it interesting that Bob Woodward and his publisher chose to release the book on September 11th.

No American leader has polarized the electorate more than has the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Is it possible Donald Trump has discovered the secret to getting away with everything is "Fear?"Neither has any topped Donald Trump in his ability to polarize our nation. I, myself, find Mr. Trump repugnant. Yet, even as I curse him for his apparent lack of empathy for other human beings, I do occasionally find his approach to politics refreshing. Why?In search of an answer for that last question, I have read most every book about the guy. Woodward’s “Fear” is probably the greatest insight we ever shall have into the psyche of America’s closest approximation to Adolph Hitler. Mind you, Hitler murdered millions, so the comparison is not literal. It is the mindset I’m speaking of, not the actual murderous intent. What I mean is, to understand how the Germans came to embrace Hitler, one must come to understand how so many Americans and political leadership have to to embrace Donald Trump.Because of “Fear,” I understand better as to why Donald J. Trump is the greatest threat to our republic. It is not because the man is evil or due to his radical conservative politics. It is because the man runs his operation in a manner most similar to how Jeff Bezos seems to run Amazon, i said ‘seems’ to. The difference is, Amazon is run as a controlled dynamic response to the demands of the marketplace. At any given moment, decisions are made according to a logical algorithm, at Amazon. In Trumplandia, it is according to the instinct of Donald Trump — only.BLUSH FACTOR: There are profanities of most every sort. Still, since this is nonfiction, I hope every American reads “Fear.”And please remember to vote in November. Whether or not you support Trump, our country needs to fully deal with the emotions now being stirred.The writing in “Fear” is thought-provoking and uneven. Because of Woodward’s dependence on Deep Background, I cannot rate it five stars. I WANT to know who said what, precisely.Still, this is the one great insight into Donald J. This was a fun read - just like the other one in the series, but it also struggles with the same challenges. There are so many typos it is distracting. Lots and lots. It needs a serious looksee from an editor. Many are wrong words- where a letter is left out creating a new word that does not make sense, or words that appear to be left from rewrites and not deleted. It is obvious what the word should be, so it does not inhibit following the story, but it is distracting. The characters are fun. Sometimes there is some awkward plot-work that does not quite make sense - but the larger schematic holds true and overall it is a fun read. Overall the writing is too good to have such poor editing. It deserves better.

I’ve already purchased books 3 and 4 in the Hazard & Somerset series. I know there are six out there, but I’m not willing to commit that far. Yet. Gregory Ashe writes a really good murder-mystery. He creates interesting characters and sets up tense, puzzling, emotion-filled situations.In this volume he drags out the iconic murder-mystery chestnut, the group of people trapped in a big old mansion during a violent storm. And he OWNS it. Heat and cold and fear are all definite characters in this gripping novel. The plot of this book is as twisted and creepy as its literary grandmother, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None (1939). Ashe delivers suspense with both barrels (as it were). This is what makes getting the next book essential as soon as you’ve finished one of them.What drives me crazy is the relationship between John-Henry Somerset and Emery Hazard. I love the way Ashe portrays the two men – and how in book 2 he gives us just enough reminders so that we remain fully aware of all the emotional baggage that these two childhood schoolmates from small-town Missouri carry. Hazard is a big brutish muscular cop (except that’s really only the outside). Somerset is all shiny and glamorous – the pretty boy with charm to spare. But he’s covered in tattoos that suggest there’s more to his surface than…surface. That these men have a complex relationship with each other is summed up in three simple facts: Somerset is married; Hazard has a boyfriend; Somerset and Hazard share an apartment.At the end of book 2, I had to sit for a while and take deep breaths. I had to remind myself that the entire timeframe of the first and second books is only a few months, and the third is set just a few weeks after the second. It is not a long time, and these two guys have many years of not speaking to work through. They have serious issues. I suppose I could just rail at the fact that, while we know what they’re thinking, they don’t talk to each other – a device in romance literature (which this book is not) that makes me nuts. Then I have to admit, that it hasn’t been that long, and these two guys have trouble facing their own feelings, much less each other’s. I just have to give them TIME. Damn.Well, I survived the frustration of Josh Lanyon’s Adrian English series, so I guess I can survive this. Question is, do I start right in on book 3, or do I give myself an emotional break? I guess I need to talk to someone about it, ‘cause apparently I have issues, too.

Delightfully written and with delicious prose, fascinating procedural aspects and vivid, engrossing characters, these books make up a (hopefully long) series of novels that are very special, indeed. And -- and, this is both important AND impressive -- while these are not at all "gay novels", they do contain a same-gender subplot that is, unto itself, fascinating, unconventional, and... deeply, wonderfully frustrating. For books that contain no, or very little, sex, of ANY kind, I... let's just say that I don't know how many more cold showers I can take! Unusually, thrillingly, and with evident and accomplished craft, there is; within and around the ever-so-clever, vastly entertaining mysteries, procedural elements, crimes committed and attrrocities solved, a uniquely thrilling subplot that creates enough sexual tension to fill every Alfred Hitchcock movie. Combined. This unconventional sexual interplay, delicious and quite funny, DOES makes me on occasion want to punch both characters involved (who, not coincidentally, always seem to be either punching each other, threatening to, or wanting to). And, these characters are "in love"! Though, inconviently, it IS true that they don't necessarilly share the same... basic romantic proclivities (thus explaining, though not excusing, the rather crass, blue-hued globes mentioned in my headline). Further, the insane, animalistic, and all-encompassing physical compulsion these characters undeniably share, is not merely something of which WE are (sometimes painfully) aware, but is something of which THEY are (sometimes painfully) aware! But, like the regular appearance of a slaughtered song-bird from a demented and cruelly still-functional cuckoo clock, something distracting ALWAYS pops out, just in (OH, NO, PLEASE) time. Or, there is a mysterious knock from a locked-from-within door. The suddenly ringing of a distant, unplugged phone. The emergenge of either a serial killer or a killer blonde ex-wife. SOMETHING always keeps these characters from fulfilling their fated, destined trajectory. Diverting both their attentions and their INtentions. All the while, thankfully, these books are hugely entertaining, and wildly enjoyable. I am looking very forward to the third in the series which, unfortunately, Mr. Ashe doesn't appear to have finished writing. Oh, well. Something this good is well worth waiting for. So, I shall sit. Waiting. Like a cook both eagerly and anxiously waiting for the indicator stuck into the breast of a Thanksgiving turkey to POP. When, finally, the third book arrives, I am SURE the balls hit repeatedly and endlessly over the ping pong net, in it's incessant, mysterious volley, will CONCLUDE! Result, finally, with a display of orgiastic fireworks uncommon at the conclusion the even the most triumphantly won ping pong match! As much as I love these books, if I, upon reaching the conclusion of book number three, find that the "game", always being played in and around the grotesque murders and ultimately successful investigations, has NOT reached it's climax, I may well (metaphorically, of course) put a bullet in my head! So, hurry, Mr. Ashe! Write! I am so incredibly, so throbbingly, ready!

Such a disappointment. I thought that there would be some interesting character development. I was excited to read the second in the series, but it failed miserably. It only got a bit interesting after I read 60% of the book. The first half was all about a dinner who-dun-it party which was boring and who cared about all these other (7?) characters. And when Hazard and Somerset was involved, their behavior was annoying at best. There was just more of the same from the first book. The editing is one of worse I've seen as well, with critical mistakes in character identification as it's worse flaw. I didn't grow to like the characters more, in fact, I grew to like them less, because their annoying habits just continued on and on. I did read the intro to the third book, which sounded like there could be character development and promise, but just at the end of the intro, the two are right back to their annoying and ridiculous behavior. So much promise in the outlines and characters of these stories, but disappointing in the execution.

An instructor may pull examples from this for class work, but this is not a text that will teach you anything by reading.

The most horrible and useless textbook I've read. It was required for a class; I read one chapter and never read anything from it again. Would not recommend.

Not a helpful book. If you don't already know something, this book won't help you learn it. Don't look for any help from the book in completing at least half the homework problems.

My impression after reading four chapters is that the book is fairly easy to read and suitable for self-study. The author provides a mound of examples and problems that are written in the medical and health science context in which they arise. The early chapters have at times been terse in presentation of formulas and computations with reference to later chapters for details. I'll look forward to that deeper material.

As far as biostatistics textbooks go, I mostly liked this one. The organization and the examples were good. There is a companion website with more examples and summaries of the chapters, from what I recall. I used this textbook for intro and intermediate biostats classes for my degree in public health.

Product was advertised in better condition than received. Both front and back covers were separated from the spine. And the pages were dirty. This would merit less than good or acceptable condition for the price. Poor condition would be more accurate.

Very satisfied with the length of delivery for the Fundamentals of Biostatistics book. The package was also done very nicely and didn't seem worn like other packages I have received from sellers.

Good job on the book Roberta. Many a company these days flounders due to a lack of vision. Generating profit alone does not qualify as a valid objective. If it did, people would be content in delivering sub standard work and products. Many a company fails to create a bonafide purpose. If leaders elect to adhere to Roberta's teachings, they'll learn to preempt people to profits which will lead to long term gains rather than short term profits. However, one thing Roberta did not address is how to spot an unctuous leader. Some people ostensibly will give you a hug yet in reality will stab you in the back. Genuine leaders will create a propitious working ambience for succeed. Ingenious ones are difficult to spot and will throw you under the bus. But in all fairnes, Roberta wrote on how to be a genuine leader rather than a wary employee.

An organization is only as good as its people and its people can only reach their highest potential with well-equipped leaders. Couldn't put this book down. Very simple. A lot of color and glitz but no substance. Student will not learn much through this book. A student in high school is supposed to learn intricate details of geometry and formal proofs. This book does not teach these things.Problems will not challenge the average student. Problems are supposed to make the student think in depth. To learn the beauty and complexity of geometry. A good book will make complex topics very simple. This book is very simple and very superficial.Very disappointing.

This is a really great Geometry book. My daughter's school has this book available online, but we both agree that having the hard copy available when working through her homework makes it much easier to flip back and forth from the examples, Appendixes (includes the answers to most positive numbered problems) and the homework listing.

Nice product, good instructions for each lesson.

We purchased this book since the school that my son attends did not have a book for each student. The text is clear and has been a great addition to my son's math resources.
